"Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?"

I feel slightly apprehensive writing a review about this book. Okay, books then. Without a doubt, if we judged how good a book was by how rich it made the author... then Harry Potter is one of the best series of books ever to grace this earth.

Thankfully, we don't. But even so, it's popularity must at least say something of it's quality. It would be wrong for me to call it 'bland' and 'not-worth-the-time-of-day', because if it wasn't worth the time of day, then nobody would of given it the time of day. If you understand me.

Having said this, I do feel that the popularity of the series does go beyond actually how good the book is. Forgive me for saying this, but there may be a possibility that J.K. Rowling was just a reasonably good writer who hit on a very, very good idea. Certainly, the writing itself is alright, the plot lines are magnificent, the characters are... slightly interesting... but the main reason of success for Harry Potter was because it appealled to the mass market.

If we were honest with ourselves, there are always times in our lives when we wish we could 'magic' things away... and the bizarre new and exiciting world of Wizards seems like only a heartbeat away in ficiton. Part of us longs to be in a Harry Potter book.

Nevertheless, J.K. Rowling's book is still, as with any author, embedded in her own life aswell. It is a thought that has come to me that when anybody, any writer, any poet, publishes a piece of work here on Booksie or elsewhere, they are entering into a personal binding contract with the reader. They are always, no matter what the published matter is like, giving a part of themselves to be read and examined by outsiders.

It is therefore a very dangerous thing to be a writer, but you may get lucky, and you may end up like J.K. Rowling.

If you would like The Rogue Hat Company to review your novel on Booksie, just say. But beware, we will review it as we want to; good or bad... having said that, we are nice people!
