The Rise and Fall of King Lear

Kent bids us all adieu

claiming to shape his old course in a country new

Yet secretly, slyly stay within us all

and turns us to safety when we are about to fall

A true friend like Kent I have no doubt

would be one I would be better with, than without,

but the lying scheming slanderous Edmund

we would all rather see him burned

In truth one would never know

till the day when we are in the snow

all alone and sad and cold

waiting for one who will stay with us till old

If the friends you make

and the friends you break

are the Kents in your life

or the Edmunds which on your flesh tithe

So go and make merry

search among the crowd

for among those drunk on sherry

might be one you can’t live without
