The Storm

The calm before the storm

is nothing like the norm.

The silence is thrilling,

the light, captivating.

The heart is a nervous wreck,

the crew busy about below deck.

The mind is a mess,

contemplating the impending test.

The men work,

the ship moves,

the captain is catatonic.

The wind blows,

the sea flows,

the whole scene is ironic.

To see the men toil

to no avail,

the sea overpowering;

the captain stares

observes his crew,

watching their failing.

His faculties dim,

ideas overflowing the rim,

his hat’s brim.

The sea of white,

the ships of black and blue,

the parable of the sailor

all so true.

This is an examination,

the final damnation.
