(BLACKOUT)

Cut to: Brandon Cam

(We open up, looking at Joshua’s face. He looks uncertain.)

Joshua.

You want- Do I just start at any time?

Matthew.

(Whispering)

Yeah.

Joshua.

Ok. (Sighs)Do you want me to start from the beginning?

BLACKOUT

Justin.

(Sub-title: Chapter 1: Justin)

Emma.

Justin… Seriously, kid. Wake. The. Hell. Up.

Justin.

Uh…?

(The screen comes to life and we see a girl pulling at his covers. She has her shirt off and only a simple pink bra as a top. Her pants are on, but not buttoned. He holds the covers as she pulls on them. Eventually she slips on a shirt that is laying on the messy floor and falls backwards with a yelp.)

Cut to: Justin.

(He shifts in his sleep.)

Justin.

Sorry…

Cut To: Off bed

(We see the corner of the bed and his feet. She pops up, comically, and blows hair out of her face.)

Emma.

Ok, then!

(She looks around the ground and picks up a shirt and begins to pull it on. It is a Dark gray shirt that has Batman’s logo. Then she picks up a tight white button up and pulls it on.)

I am headed out, but I’ll be back tonight. Justin! (mumbling) I swear to God- (Back to regular) Wake up, kid!

Justin.

(Hand up in the air lazily)

I’m not-

Emma.

Not a kid. I know. Just get up sometime soon. I want a showered and awake man when I get back.

(Jumps on him and strattles him. Bends down to his face.)

Cut to: Justin

(Justin lays sleeping while Emma lays her head by his. And whispers in his ear.)

Get up…

(He stirs and his eyes flutter open. He sees her and his eyes widen a bit.)

Justin.

I’m up, I’m up.

Emma.

I’m proud.

(Rolls her eyes, then leans down and pop kisses him. That turns into more and soon they’re getting into it. He begins to pull her down, then-)

Emma.

Nope!

(Pulling up)

I have to go. You have to get up.

Justin.

Why?

Emma.

Why do I have to go, or why do you have to get up?

Justin.

Both.

Emma.

I have to go because the Lord hath blessed me with the world’s earliest classes. And you have to get up because although you don’t want to admit it, you haven’t written a sentence in a week. And for a writer, that’s-Well I don’t know but it can’t be a good thing. Please, for me? Get some work done today?

Justin.

(Being cute, mocking her.)

Ok, I’ll get some work done today.

Emma.

I mean it.

Justin.

(Mocking)

I know you mean it.

Emma.

Stop it.

Justin.

Stop-

(She attacks him with a quick kiss, then rolls off the bed, buttoning her pants and grabbing her purse. He rolls over to watch her.)

Emma.

See you tonight. I love you! Ok, bye.

(She runs to the door and runs out. The door stays open.)

Justin.

HEY!

(After a second, her head pops in.)

Emma.

Yes?

(He reaches over and pulls a set of keys off of the end table and throws it to her.)

Both In Unison.

Bye!

(After a moment he falls backwards onto the bed.)

Cut to: His face, sideways, eyes closed.

(The picture stays like this for a moment before…)

(BLACKOUT)

Cut To: Subtitle

(Sub-Title: Chapter 2: The Future.)

Cut To: Justin’s bedroom.

(Justin still lays on the bed asleep, yet now the home phone rings. It does for a while and Justin just turns on the bed. The voicemail kicks in.)

Matthew.

(Girlish voice)

Justin, oh Justin pick up the phone…

(normal now)

Seriously, pick up the phone. I have a shit load of things I gotta do today and you are one of them. Emma texted me, so get your ass out of bed and come down and get some starbucks with your best friend.

Cut To: End Table and Phone.

Matthew.

I know you hear me! Justin! Justin!

(Suddenly a hand shoots to the phone and picks it up, then shoots back with it in hand.)

Justin.

(Sleepy)

Hello?

Matthew.

You, me, seven minutes, downstairs. I’ve got an idea and it’s been brewin’ all morning so get up and get out! Move it!

(High pitched, operatic.)

Move it!

(The phone is put back on the table and the hand leaves again. Shuffling is heard and then Justin walks past the camera, dragging his blanket with him.)

Cut To: Behind view.

(As Justin walks he bends over and picks up a pair of pants and a button up shirt, a thing of juice from beside the door and walks out the door with his cover still in his grasp, not bothering to shut it.)

Cut To: Behind view again.

(We stare a Justin walking down a hall. An old lady sits outside of her apartment with a dollar store mini-fan. As he gets closer, she turns it off.)

Gretta.

Well look who it is, the prodigal tenant. Haven’t seen you in a while. What’ve you been up to?

Justin.

(Still Sleepy)

Hey Miss Fredricks. I’ve just been good. (shrugs, not stopping to talk) Tell Mr. Frederick’s that I’ll be over Sunday night to play some poker.

Gretta.

I’ll tell him dear. Hugs and kisses!

Cut To: Justin

(Who has now reached the elevator and enters it, still only in his boxers. He waves sleepily at the camera and gives a smile.)

Justin.

Bye Mrs. Fredericks.

(The elevator begins to open and Justin only pulls remaining part of his cover in before the door closes.)

(Ding!)

Cut to: In elevator.

(Justin stands there bobbing a bit to the music for a second before yawning.)

Cut To: elevator door.

(The door opens and Justin is already dressed up and is finishing the buttons on his shirt. He picks up the cover off of the ground, drapes it over his back like a cape and walks out of the elevator and pass the camera, all the while whistling “Sunday morning” By Maroon 5.)

Cut To: In front of him.

(We see Joshua’s shoulder as he walks and a group of people straight ahead, all in a circle talking.)

Cut to: Closer to circle.

(Matthew Is talking to a few guys, half flirting and half handing out flyers until he glances back and see’s Joshua coming. He jumps up, thrusts the pile of papers into a random girls hands and begins his run, more like a gallop, to Joshua.)

Matthew.

Joshy! Buddy, how ya doin’? Here is your Starbucks.

(He holds out a cup but Joshua just shrugs and holds up his bottle of Juicy Juice.)

Right. Well come this way, come on.

(They reach the group, who all look towards them.)

Joshua, group. Group, Joshua.

Group.

Hi, Joshua.

(Confused, Joshua just raises a hand in welcome and smiles, confusedly.)

Joshua.

Uh, Hey.

Matthew.

Group, disperse.

(He snaps and at this, the group does just that, they go back to talking within themselves, while Matthew pulls Joshua to the side.)

You’re confused, I know. You might not even be awake yet, and that’s ok.

(Joshua just stares at him, waiting for the point of the conversation.)

Ok, never mind, you need to wake up.

(At this he lightly slaps his cheek. Joshua slaps his hand away.)

Joshua.

I’m awake. What is this?

Matthew.

The future, my friend.

Joshua.

The… Future.

(Matthew grabs a shoulder and pulls him forward and points away as if looking at the horizon.)

Matthew.

Yes. The FUTURE.

Joshua.

OK. I get it. It’s the future. But why do I have to be a part of THE FUTURE?

Matthew.

A part of this? You ARE this.

Joshua.

I’m not following you.

Matthew.

(Still staring at Joshua.)

BRANDON!

(He snaps twice.)

(Suddenly a guy rushes from the group with a camera in hand.)

Brandon.

Yeah?

Matthew.

(Still staring at Joshua.)

Brandon, Josh. Josh, Brandon.

Brandon.

Yeah, we met with the- Yeah.

Matthew.

Brandon is a camera guy. Aren’t you Brandon?

Brandon.

(A little confused.)

Yep…I’m a camera guy.

Matthew.

(Still looking at Joshua.)

Thank you Brandon.

Brandon.

Your… welcome, I guess.

Matthew.

(Clears throat.)

THANK YOU Brandon.

Brandon.

(Catching the hint.)

Oh, gotcha.

(He returns to the group.)

Joshua.

I – What? What is going on?

Matthew.

You know how I’ve been shooting that pilot for the show about that girl who can see through walls and shit?

Joshua.

No.

Matthew.

She has the pet squirrel.

Joshua.

Oh yeah, you ever finish that?

Matthew.

Short answer, yes.

Joshua.

Did you show your boss?

Matthew.

Oh, yeah.

Joshua.

Well? Did he like it?

(Matthew thinks for a moment before talking.)

Matthew.

He hated it. Everyone hated it. The people who were in it hated it. I hate it.

Joshua.

Ouch.

Matthew.

That’s not important though! Because I’m moving to the future. No, WE are moving to the future.

Joshua.

I told you, man. I don’t act.

Matthew.

And you don’t have to! That’s the beauty of it! Remember Brandon?

Joshua.

(Annoyed)

Yes, I remember Brandon.

Matthew.

Ok, well he works for the boss. And me.

Joshua.

I thought you said they didn’t like the show?

Matthew.

They didn’t like “See Through”, no.

Joshua.

“See Through”?

Matthew.

Pet squirrel!

Joshua.

Ok, yeah.

Matthew.

Pay attention. They didn’t like “See Through” but they did like my new idea.

(Pregnant moment)

Joshua.

Do I have to guess it, or are you just going to tell me?

Matthew.

Reality, man. That’s what’s hot. That’s what’s in! And that’s what you’re going to be a part of!

Joshua.

I love you like a brother matt. But I’m not gonna be a part of some reality show. I’m way too busy.

(Begins to walk away. Matthew follows him.)

Matthew.

Doing what?

Joshua.

I have a book due in two weeks.

Matthew.

And I’m not gonna get in your way! You’re gonna be living your everyday life, I’m just gonna be filming it. Anything you don’t want shot, we won’t shoot. Scout’s honor!

Justin.

You were never a boy-scout.

Matthew.

(Matthew stops walking, looking a bit sad. Joshua stops and turns around.)

It’s a paying gig and we’ll be out in a month. Two tops.

Cut to: Justin’s face.

Justin V/O.

You ever get that feeling that something monumental is about to happen?

Cut to: farther away.

(Justin looks at Matthew for a moment before ruffling his hair and saying…)

Justin.

How much are we talking?

Matthew.

Brandon! Whoever the hell else has a camera come on! We have some footage to tag!

(And as the cameras round in on him, the screen does a..)

BLACKOUT.

(We hear nothing but a key sliding into a door for a moment. Then the screen burst to life and we see a close-up of Sadie in the door-way.)

Cut To: Brandon Cam

Emma.

(Raising a hand in front of her eyes to block the light that just came upon her.)

Hello there… camera-man? Justin?

Justin.

(From other room)

In here! Don’t mind Brandon!

Emma.

(Moving into the door)

… And you’re Brandon, I presume?

(The camera dips up and down signifying yes.)

Right.

(She walks past the camera and off.)

Cut to: Computer room.

(Emma walks in and behind Justin who is typing away at the computer. She pulls his head back a bit and kisses his forehead and then leans in closer to his ear.)

Emma.

Confused face.

Justin.

(Still occupied by the computer)

What’s that?

Emma.

Oh nothing. Just wondering what’s with the whole camera crew in the front room.

Justin.

Hmm?

Emma.

(Turning him in his chair.)

What’s with the camera?

Justin.

Next subject.

Emma.

(Not really mad, but impatient)

Oh God, don’t do this now!

Justin.

Uh-uh! I called it first so next subject!

Emma.

But straight after you’ll tell me?

Justin.

Cross my heart.

Emma.

Oh! How’s our little baby coming along?

Justin.

I would say there are… Complications.

Emma.

Being?

Justin.

Being the fact that I have only (Looks at the computer screen) 187 pages.

Emma.

Oh babe! What happened? Did you lose some?!

Justin.

No, I- The main character Gerald, you know him?

Emma.

(Being cute)

Why yes, I do believe I am familiar with Gerald.

Justin.

(Beginning to ramble)

Yeah, well in chapter 12 I had him dropping his satchel into the fire because I was going to come back to it and I forgot so here I have this kid in the middle of a flaming dungeon losing a satchel that he should have lost four chapters ago-

Emma.

So can’t you just re-write that chapter 12 scene?

Justin.

(looks at her like she’s dumb for a moment before realizing she doesn’t know the plan.)

No, I mean that’s a very legitiment answer to this situation but the whole point of the drop was meant to bring on this whole other kind of uh, string of events that lead to literally the perfect ending and-

Emma.

And now you’re stuck.

Justin.

And you can’t lose what you never had.

(Pregnant moment)

Emma.

Aw, babe. When are they wanting it?

Justin.

I think I have until the first of the month.

Emma.

Which means you have like two weeks, and I don’t wanna even think of re-writes. Are you going to get this done?

Justin.

Yeah, I think- I KNOW I’ll get it done. I have plenty of time. The only problem is the drop.

(Silence for a moment)

Emma.

Well do not fret, for I, the lady of the apartment have come bearing gifts in the form of brain-food!

(She crosses to the chair again and pulls out a take-out bag and crosses back to the bed, sitting Indian style on the edge. She pulls out Two cheeseburgers andsmall basket of fries. Then she pats beside her on the bed.)

Emma.

Come eat. It’ll be good for ya.

Justin.

Since when are burgers brain food?

Emma.

Since I learned how to improvise.

Justin.

(Getting up.)

Cute.

Cut To: Mels.

(Matthew sits at a booth to the right of a male about his age. Across from the two sits a pretty couple.)

Matthew.

Hey, could you- uh- go get us another round?

Bernard.

Please?

Matthew.

Will you please go get us a round?

Bernard.

Of course.

(He gets up and walks off camera.)

Matthew.

So, I hope you both know why I asked you here today?

(They both agree saying yes or whatever)

Matthew.

Perfect, perfect. Alright first things first. This is heather (Pointing to the girl) and this is Harry

(Pointing to him)

(They say hi to each other)

Heather.

You didn’t have to buy us drinks.

Matthew.

You don’t even worry about it. I got it. It’s my pleasure. After all you two ARE my two new stars.

Cut to: Apartment

(The two lay on the bed now, the camera laying straight above them. Emma nibbles on a few fries while Justin takes a drink from his cup. They laugh and then Emma looks serious again.)

Emma.

So now. What’s with the cameras?

(Justin stands up and walks over to her hanging onto an arm and pulling her away.)

Justin.

I don’t know- it’s just a thing.

Emma.

(Sits up)

Educate me.

Justin.

It’s just- I’ve done a lot of soul searching lately-

Emma.

And by lately you probably mean the last hour and a half.

Justin.

Very funny. Where was I?

Emma.

I believe you were soul searching.

Justin.

Oh yeah. But I’ve realized that I have come to the conclusion that I’m not making enough money for us to live with just writing and so Matthew called this morning and now I’m making some money on the side.

Emma.

I… Uh, What? What are you talking about? You’re making enough, were making enough.

Justin.

Yes, but Matthew’s pilot tanked and now he needs some help.

Emma.

So, what? Now he’s taping you inside the apartment? (Thinking it’s a weird fetish) Do people want to see that?

Justin.

No, no. He’s doing some kind of reality show and he thinks that my story could be good to watch.

Emma.

I’m still confused.

Justin.

You know, up-and-coming writer living an apartment with a beautiful girl who just so happens to be his fiancé…

Emma.

What?

(Kneels down)

Justin.

There isn’t a ring. Yet. But since were being paid for the show I’ll have enough really soon. Emma, will you marry me?

Emma.

You- Justin?

Cut to: Mels.

(The four sit there now, talking politely.)

Matthew.

So it’s about two months so far and since it’s on a lower budget were saving money and you’re getting more. So- what are we thinking?

Harry.

I mean, yeah, it sounds great. But is there a catch? Do we have to do anything special? Out of the ordinary?

Heather.

Yeah, I don’t really think I’m up for the whole eating bugs thing. Even if it’s for money.

Matthew.

Valid questions guys, and no. No nasty stuff. This is just you and your daily lives. I mean there will be some meet ups, some plot twists, and a daily diary but that’s all very, very minor.

Harry.

Plot twists? Is this scripted?

Matthew.

Well, no. Think of it like this. We make small little speed bumps that your gonna react to. That’s all. Just stuff to keep some of the boring parts, from being just that. (Stares for a moment then lowers his voice reassuringly.) All that means iswe’re going to be throwing a few parties and bringing a few people in. Kind of transitional tools meant to just keep things fresh.

So wattya say?

(The two look at each other for a moment before turning to Matthew and saying…)

BOTH.

I’m in.

Matthew.

Beautiful. OK, you two need to be at Mel’s tonight around eight oclock. Do you know where that is-?

(FADE OUT)

Cut to: The Apartment

(Justin still sits on one knee.)

Emma.

You-?

Justin.

(Laughing)

Yeah!

Emma.

Justin! Yes! Oh my God, yes!!!

(She attacks him in a hug and they kiss passionately for a little bit. )

Cut to: Brandon Cam

(We see them kissing. Emma is in his arms and has both legs popped back in the air.)

Brandon.

(Quietly)

Ah, yeah.

Cut to: Other view.

Emma.

Oh my God, I have to call Mary. I have to call Mom… I have to call- Oh my God, I have to call Everyone!!!

(Squeal)

(And she kisses him again.)

Justin.

Well do it quick because Matt’s holding us a party tonight at Mel’s.

Emma.

For us?

Justin.
