Mr. Linden’s Library It was a foggy, frigid and dark night at Vernishe’s palace and Mr. Linden was still writing that book, he had been doing the same routine for hours, whispering the words to himself quietly so he wouldn’t break the chain of silence that abounded the halls of his ancient palace, I couldn’t puzzle out what he was mumbling, I just unraveled that it was a subject of great concern I got this by the way he dramatically moved his hands, I’m sure that that book will have many dark secrets, and could open a new world to someone, I was sure that that book was being enchanted. Today a new employee came to the palace, I could guess her age by the smoothness of her skin, I would say she was about twenty years old or less, she had a narrow and bony body, with hair so light that blended with her pale skin, I saw no words coming out of her mouth whilst welcoming her in to the household, she just nodded and smiled with a fearful broken smile, I couldn’t figure out who she was and why she had come I just noticed that she already knew about that book, and wanted to know about it, every time someone said something about it she was the first present in the conversation however she remained still and as quiet as a rock with her pale face and black dark eyes. Five years later Mr. Linden finished his book, it was an object completely new to human memories; it was made out of extinct gold that shined as the sun and brighter, it was collocated on a glass shelf it had nothing but excessive cleanliness where all the lights were pointing at, Mr. Linden told us that he didn’t want to see not one single finger print on the gall nor on the door knob, I saw Erica’s face I could tell that she was curious by the way that she expanded her eyes like an owl, that her pores opened and you could see her sweat dripping slowly down her skin, I felt fear, I didn’t know what could happen and above all I didn’t want her to disappoint Mr. Linden. It was 4:00am on a Tuesday when I heard footsteps on the second floor. I got worried, then I heard a door that had been recently opened. I thought that Mr. Linden was checking if everything was okay in the ‘forbidden room”, I did not want to get up, what if he saw me roaming around in the second floor? I wouldn’t last very long with a job that’s for sure taking on account Mr. Linden’s character. I heard a scream that made every single arm hair stand out, I could feel the blood running through my veins and my eyelids pounding, my heart, I thought was going to come out of my chest, I ran up stairs, now it didn’t matter if I got fired, I had to save someone’s life, I ran whilst my mind was getting foggier and foggier. The door was opened I saw blood on the floor and on it’s reflection I saw an empty glass shelf, my heart skipped a beat. My hands were constantly shaking as I saw Erica lying dead on the cold, dark floor with a knife on her heart, Mr. Linden was peacefully sleeping in his bedroom, I had the courage to check, so who was the killer? We put Erica on the coffin, her face was tense, stressed I closed her eyes gently and put her bible lying dead on her frigid hands the only thing left to say was that he had warned her about the book…now it was too late. Mr. Linden fired me later, he was moving to Amsterdam, Holland. He did not give any reasons or goodbyes he just walked out of the empty palace, I noticed he had a very rare black feather that even staring at it gave me chills… and I could never know the reason of my strange reaction, the last time I saw him was the time he walked out the door wearing his black leather cape, and his hat, after that he had disappeared out of my life and had left scars on my memories.
