In the beginning you were high

Propped up by my visions of you

Our future in sync

Our dreams laid out before us

You were my sun, I your orbit

Too timid,

Too weak

When did it all change?

When did the Universe realign?

Maybe when you left me?

Or somewhere in between?

Always to return

But does that really matter?

The first time a wrench

A missing piece

The second time sturdy

As toddler’s feet

Always waiting

Trapped in time

Life not complete

Until you came back

The longest time

I had had enough

of waiting

One day at a time

I carved out a life

Made the life I’d always wanted it to be

Waiting on you

To return

To me

But like time immortal

Nothing stays the same

Including me

Including you

You have come back

Physically

But I am no longer me

I don’t want to go back

Today is a new day

I like it here

I feel strong

I have everything I’ve ever wanted

Does that include you?

Somehow I am standing high

You beg for me to return to you

But I feel cold

I feel as if I don’t know you

Or I do,

I remember how it used to be

But somehow I have grown

And you have stayed the same

Is that true?

I no longer know if I love you

Can we get it back?

Tap back into the old spark

That I know is still there

In my heart

Or have we moved forward too much

My love no longer there?

Our paths set to diverge

My wings ready to take flight

Will you still be there?

Do I still want you there?

We’ll see.
