I love you in that unreasonable way
where I want to lie in bed with you for days.
We draw the blinds and cancel our plans
and silently trace fingertips along backs,
painting our designs of forever-love.
We can't even bother to phone for pizza delivery.
We cut off the moldy parts of stale bread and toast them,
smother peanut butter and jelly and squeeze them together
with the stickiness oozing at the seams.
I won't shower unless you join me.
You want to see how many times we can twist our legs together.
We play a game where the next word begins with the last letter of the last word.
We decide that at the edges of your bed there is a foreign embassy;
it will handle the demands of the world.
Everything outside the of your bed seems really unreasonable and inconsequential.
Everything else is an illusion and this is the only thing that matters.
We agree that this is how we'll spend the rest of our lives.
This will be our job.
We will enact John and Yoko's bed-in.
People will visit, take pictures, and leave us cookies and smiles.
