There he was sitting at the piano. His hands flying over the keys, swifter than mercury. His long elegant fingers creating magical sequences from astral planes unsullied by the heathens of the world.

I recognise him. Not his countenance per se, but his manner, his posture, his aura.

I sat in the audience, transfixed by this foreign being, lashing at me with melodies of my soul he had no authority to master.

I cursed this unknown male to the 9 circles of hell for making me feel, for causing torment and longing. Longing for that which does not exist.

I stood to leave and save myself from these laments of anguish. But paused, startled by the artist's abrupt halt to his rendition of a tragedy.

I turned to risk a glance at the source of my exodus.

He was hunched over the clavier, hands hovering over the ivories, unmoving. And his face, oh God his face, marred in agony.

Time rebelled and stood still. I was left alone with this creature I knew, but didn't.

I gasped as he turned his head, terribly slow, towards me.

My lungs refused to accomodate the air I so desperately needed, as a tear escaped the corner of my right eye the moment his orbs of onyx aligned with my gaze.

A rush of pain coursed through my heart. For I knew him. Not his sharp jawline, nor his imposing height as he inched towards me, but his magnetism. The longing in his melancholic eyes.

I needed to run. To escape this confinement of spirit. But I was bound by this man's magic.

I breathed in his intoxicating scent of amber and wood, rain and earth.

He captured the lone tear streaking down my flushed cheek and annointed his lips.

My hands dared to move and embraced his shoulders. Firm and wide.

My eyes shut of their own accord..

His hands found my neck, throbbing with my pulse. He outlined the spot, feeling my blood rushing, chasing his touch.

I sighed as a hand moved to the small of my back.

My head rested against his chest, observing the steady beat of his heart.

''I know you.'' I exhaled.

''And I know you.'' He breathed.
