Another short horror story I wrote, this one a little bit shorter but i hope you enjoy anyways!

Step by step, Lara walked down the narrow footpath through the woods. Tall pine trees rose far above her head, their thick branches blocked the moonlight and enveloped the forest in darkness. Lara paced quickly through the green night, worrying thoughts rushing through her head.  Step by step she walked faster and faster. This wasn't her first time in the woods, in fact she used to go for long walks through the woods every night. Lara lived in a small, lonely house in the country, with her family. There were no other houses or people for miles, their house was the only one in the region. Their house was  a small green hill, surrounded by miles of lush green pine forests that looked beautiful in winter snow, however it wasn't winter and the only thing they offered now was the solitude of the night. Lara never felt this uneasy during her walks. But this time was different, this tine she felt eyes watching her and stalking, and heard footsteps stomp the ground behind her, someone was following her she was sure of it. Her slow walk turned into a rush towards safety. Lara usually would walked deep into the woods and it took her a while to get back home but she was never concerned about it, she never before felt watched on her walks. She rushed faster and faster trying not to run and let her pursuer know she noticed him. She was hoping to see the little light of her house on the hill, but still miles of pines blocked her view of it. As she was speeding through the woods all kinds of things went through her mind. She recalled all the folk tails she listen to as a child from her grandmother. Stories of nymphs and elf, and wolves haunting the woods that would eat through human bones as if they were toothpicks. All the while she could still sense the foul presence around her, watching her every step, waiting for the right moment to strike! She rushed faster and faster, Lara knew her ho.e wasn't near but she had to keep going as fast as she could, behind her always followed the gloomy shadow, in front of her nothing but darkness and shrubbery.
While she ran Lara remembered the legend that her grandmother used to scare her out of going into the woods. The tale told of a forest demon, a terrifying creature that fed off the fear of children who fall pray to him. And another story about a pale, white woman haunting the forest streams, she would dance in the moonlight for hours until a passing stranger would see her and would approach her curiously, she would then turn into a monster and devour the stranger whole.  As Lara remembered these stories she got more and more afraid of what was behind her in the woods. As she ran, her foot caught on a stone and she tripped and fell down. She crawled in place trying to get up out of the mud. She then felt a coldness wash over her, an ominous spirit came over her and she heard a loud roar coming from the woods. She turned around, and from the darkness of the woods emerged two tall legs, almost as tall as she was, the were inhumanly thin and pure black as if made out of the darkness from which they emerged. The rest of the body was hidden up in the trees but it was almost three times as tall as Lara. She could only see it's long arms falling beneath it's ankles. She screamed overwhelmed with fright. She menage to get up and ran like hell without stopping or looking back. She desperately wanted to close her eyes, as if that would save her from the monster. She ran and ran, her breath heavy and shallow. she was exhausted. She could still hear those long legs stomp on the ground behind her, every time a little louder, little closer, as if the monster took giant steps. After a few minutes of running she could.finally see a clearing through the trees, she saw the light of the house shining on the green hill. She could feel blood rushing from her body into her legs as she ran faster still towards safety.
Now all the thought of old tales and creepy stories were replaced with thoughts of warmth and safety back home. She ran, promising herself she will never again go into the woods. The exit was close now, the light of her house blinded her view, just as she was getting closer she wanted to scream for her dad to go outside, to guard her from the monster in the woods. But just as she gathered her breath to scream, she saw two thin, unnaturally black hands wrap around her face, blocking her mouth and stopping her from screaming. Lara still tried, but her scream was muffled. Monster's fingers were long and pointy, they dug into her soft skin, she could hear the monster growl as it pulled her back into the darkness of the woods. Will anyone miss her? Those were her last thoughts.
