many a wind has whistled past
the ruffling of birdfeathers in the trees
a willow hangs its dainty hands
that sway like maidens in the breeze

many a flower once bright and fresh
has whithered and wilted and died
many are the days that separate
the distance between you and I

my friend, or should i say we were
but foolish fools who frolic
listening for the whistling wind
the way we now listen to the clock tick

there was a time when you and I
would gaze upon a moody shore
the moon, my comfort, clean white light
but now those days are no more

i wish but to smell a scottish summer
or taste the irish sea
to inhale the essense of sweet dutch smoke
as it was, and so shall it be

but the waves that crash upon the shore
ever so fierce they have risen
shall wipe clean the slate of all existence
and the earth shall be void of all men

and before the sea should swallow us whole
and time should cease to be
i wish to frolic like the way we did
when you were a friend to me
