He kissed me every time, he got home,

We were never apart, never alone,

I loved him with my whole heart,

Just seeing him, it would stop, then start,

Then the officials came, a letter in hand,

Demanding my love to leave this land,

He waved goodbye, from that ship,

World War II began, and the tears slip,

Letters exchanged with unspoken words,

I wrote to tell him what I had learned,

Our unborn child grew inside,

"I'm fine." I would write, always a lie,

Time passed by, with no letter, no conversation,

Then the officials returned, explaining his missing destination,

You left me there, all alone,

While you vanished to the battle zone,

You were assumed dead, lying somewhere in the world,

And then she was born, our baby, our little girl,

She never knew her father,

Then again, neither did I,

We were both so young,

And now you watch, from the sky...
