WAS SISYPHUS A DRUNK?

So many times I escaped Hades

Only to abandon myself to those horrid gates

Waiting for Charon I got too near the Styx

And fell into a stupor

In this stupor evil ruled

Selfish use of others

Lies when none were needed

Others always to blame

Time and time again tweaking Hades’ nose

Until I lived in terror of not escaping

Like Sisyphus I tried and tried

Only to fail when the goal was in reach

Was I condemned to this awful terror

Trapped by my inability

To push this rock over the top

To despair of ever being free

Death finally was seen as relief

Hades could have me

Zeus could no longer punish me

I did the only thing left - SURRENDERED

Now the trickster, the manipulator, done

Now free of myths and trials of the gods

Now free by amazing grace

Now the rock rolls down the other side.
