A little poem about the America I grew up in, and my favorite season. This is my first venture into poetry, and I can only hope it's up to snuff!

The summer cicadas,

the yellow sun,

the green Spanish moss,

the corrugated tin.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And so it has come again,
with it have come
all the things I love,
and shamelessly frolic in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The summer lemonade,

the 'gator huntin',

the barbeque out on the porch,

the slow boat trips.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With the end of may,
the sweet new dawn comes,
and the water curls off
the swamp, coming alive.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The summer laughs,

the sun dresses,

the sleeveless shirts,

the loud radios and fans.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
With skinny arms,
and scarred palms
and a wandering mind
and an old Jeep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The summer love,

the warm, close-eyed kisses,

the mosquitoes,

and the joy.
