Grasping for Air

I don’t know how it happened,
When it happened or why.
I just know it did,
And that I love him.
It’s a strange feeling,
To know you can’t live without someone,
To catch yourself wondering,
“What would he say?”
Or think. Or do. Or wish.
If he were here with me now,
Forever.
Everything makes me wonder.
I can’t stop thinking about him.
I crave the sound of his voice,
The deep intensity of his eyes,
The soft brush of his hand against mine.
There is no escape.
I can’t concentrate.
I’m lost in the past.
Replaying his smile over,
And over in my mind.
A broken record.
What I wouldn’t give to see him,
To be wrapped in his safe arms,
To have him never let go,
But that won’t happen.
He’s not mine.
He said he loved me,
Wanted to be by my side,
And help me stay afloat,
In the storm cloud of life.
He said it hurt him,
To be with another girl,
To have to hold and love her.
Yet nothing has changed.
They’re still together.
We’re still apart.
I am still longing for his embrace,
One that will never come.
