Two Pieces

He loves me.
I love him.
We both know it.
But she loves him, too,
And she’s his girlfriend.

But not to worry.
There is a simple solution.
A logical thing to do.
Right?

Wrong.
He is incapable.
He says he can’t hurt her,
But he is hurting me, too.

He has left my heart in suspense.
Grasping for thin air.
The pieces held almost together,
Not allowed to shatter of mend.
Acid is slowly eating it away.
He is keeping me from falling apart,
But not letting me move on.

I would almost rather he break my heart,
Than keep me here waiting.
Always holding on, to a shred of hope.
