Dear diary,
Did I do something wrong? I mean, why did we have to be poor and why did I have to have a money-crazy mother? And why did my father have to go away, knowing fully well that my needy mum couldn’t survive alone with me? Stupid parents. They don’t even care about me. And my own mother sends me off to marry some random guy for money. They really don’t care about me. And all those stupid school ‘friends’ say that I am so lucky to marry some pretty, rich people. The world is so unfair. I don’t even know who I am marrying! I just know that it’s a stupid rich brat who loves any pretty girl! I’d be in huge trouble if anyone saw this but who cares? I mean if anyone did that would be better, cause then he wouldn’t want to marry me. I’m only 17. Why did this have to happ
“ARIEL!!! HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I CALLED YOU?!” Marie called shrilly. Oops! I was too absorbed in my diary! “ARIEL?!”
“Coming!” I replied back. I hate how she thinks that since she is my mother she can order me about, just like some toy. She doesn’t even care about me! I tucked the old red diary under my mattress. I looked around my scruffy room. It was tiny, the brown paint was peeling off and the mossy, wet carpet reeked. I wouldn’t even call it a carpet cause it was so tangled up and useless. I opened the small window ajar and let the humid, icky air escape like some criminals to the outside world. A little satisfied, I breathed in the fresh crisp morning air and smiled. It soon disappeared when Marie entered.
“Do you know how long I was waiting for you? Erg! This room stinks! And you *cough* SIT THERE SMILING GAILY AT THE WINDOW!” Marie shrieked on the top of her lungs. I’m sure; the whole neighborhood could hear that. “His name is David.” I didn’t have to ask whose name it was. But haven’t I heard that before… SLAP!
“At least look at me when I speak! You are a disgusting child with no manners!” Marie screamed as I looked into her eyes. My right cheek hurt from where she slapped me. It was nothing unusual. She always treated me like this when those other selfish and conceited girls and boys have their parents drowning them with love. It was disgusting. I don’t know how ill survive if Marie drowns me with love.
“Here is your dress. Don’t mess it up! I paid a lot of money to get this!” Marie warned me with her ‘ill kill you if you do something bad’ look. Seriously! I bet she has this mountain of cash hidden in her lavish room. She doesn’t even use it to fix my room or buy anything for me! Selfish. Its no wonder why father abandoned her, but why me? It was probably because he thought that I was like her. It’s detestable when you know that somebody thinks they know everything. It’s like they are the ones who created this world. Really, I loathe them.
Marie stomped out, obviously thinking that she was going to create some ‘I’m better than you’ airs around her. I glanced at my dress and froze. Wow! It was so pretty! It was a dress that suited me so much! There was a white rose stuck on it and it was a pretty normal wedding dress. But not in my eyes. The dress glimmered and sparkled in this hideous room and I thought, well it’s just as if I am going to turn into Cinderella and have a handsome prince. The thought cracked. No way! That is only in fairytales and the ‘prince’ is just some rich kid. Sheesh, how could I have thought that? Unbelievable.
I took a quick shower with my wet hair dangling on my shoulders and swiftly put on my dress. I knew I looked pretty with this dress on. I imagined Marie’s jealousy and grinned.
I was lead by a flower girl to a red carpet which was rolled down to a… Really hot guy. I couldn’t stop blushing and thinking haven’t I seen him before? Time went really slow when I walked that carpet with the flower girl. His soft warm gaze made me melt inside. I blinked and quickly took in what was happening to me. Did I… Did I love somebody at first sight? Wow that’s unbelievable! But it was happening whether I believed it or not. His tender smile made me want to faint.
I, finally, reached him.
“I finally get to see you Ariel. I love you.” David whispered. I thought his husky voice was familiar. Wait, where have I heard the name David? Click! I know him! He was my childhood friend and my first crush that went away to study abroad!
I looked at David with new eyes. I could feel that my eyes were watery and mushy.
“David.” I whispered back fondly, resisting the urge to kiss his perfect face. Maybe this was a fairytale and maybe this was my happily ever after.
THE END
