Beating Heart
By: Jessica Tucker

The beating of a heart,
signifies many things.
It's rhythm changes with each part,
of life's emotional strings.

A new love causes many skips,
as if to leap for joy.
Feels like it stops, when you lock lips,
like when a child gets a new toy.

Excitement in a moment, makes it race,
faster and faster, to the finish line.
A warm sensation, gazing at a lover's face,
here, you could spend an eternity of time.

Death of a beloved makes it ache,
and wish for their return.
Pain, as if stabbed with a stake,
as a broken heart starts to burn.

A life torn apart, it feels crushed,
and longs for luck to turn around.
As life ends, the beat is hushed,
the heart no longer makes a sound.
