WOLF:THE TRAINING YEARS PART 1

PROLOGUE

A bullet whizzed past Jago’s head, causing his cool blue eyes to widen in fright. I’m too old for this. The 28 year old thought mirthlessly. He ducked quickly as a bullet hit his short brown hair. He was surprised his short beard stubble had not disintegrated from the heat of the rounds. All the while in the back of his mind he was thinking: I will never be this stupid again.

Jago Vere stepped off the bus and took in the woodland scenery. ‘Are you sure the training camp’s here?’ He asked the driver. ‘Move it so the others can get off.’ The man replied. Jago moved to the side so the others could get out. A man of Irish descent walked over to him. ‘Hello their.’ The man said with a soft accent, smiling with his green eyes. 'I’m Ian McBrennen, how are you today?’
‘Um… good.’
‘What’s your name?’
‘Does it matter? We’re here to train not talk. Why don’t you -.’ He was interrupted when the bus abruptly left them. Immediately after the bus left a loudspeaker hidden in the trees announced 'ALL NEW RECRUITS, WALK FORWARDS UNTIL YOU REACH A CLEARING.'

The 18 men moved forwards awkwardly looking around. Jago had come from a different army camp then all of them. He had proven his skill with enemy firearms numerous times, causing him to be here. The men reached the clearing, and after about 5 minutes of mulling around a man said. ‘This sucks, I mean, I don’t even want to be here. I didn’t choose to come here. Some test just appeared in an envelope addressed to me like everyone else here.’
‘Then leave.’ a man had appeared behind them. ‘Of course, It’s an 80 mile walk to the nearest village so small it doesn’t even have a police station. ‘Well if you still want to attempt something useful in your life you should get into your “work” clothing and get to bed. Especially because it’s about 10:00 already and you have to wake up early tomorrow for a head start on training.

THE NEXT DAY

Jago was woken up at about 3:00 to a breakfast of stale bread and water. After “breakfast”, Each recruit was given a codename and divided into one of the 6 groups of 3 . Jago’s codename was Wolf and he was in Team 4. About an hour later all the teams were sent to a large grey room where there was only 2 more doors and a 32 inch LCD TV  screen on a wall. Suddenly, as soon as the entrance door closed, the screen burst into life with images of weapons and tactics and a hidden stereo blared. ‘WELCOME, RECRUITS, TO YOUR FIRST OF MANY COMBAT SIMULATION TRAININGS. TODAY, TEAMS 1,2 AND 3 WILL FIGHT AGAINST TEAMS, 4 , 5 AND 6.

TO ENSURE PERFECT REALISM YOU WILL BE USING MODIFIED FN P-100 SEMI AUTOMATIC ASSAULT RIFLES THAT FIRE SYNTHETIC ROUNDS THAT HAVE THE EXACT LOOK OF REAL BULLETS BUT ARE NOT AS LETHAL. YOU MUST ELIMINATE ALL OF THE ENEMY TEAM AND IF YOU ARE HIT BY ANY ROUNDS AT ALL, THE FULL BODY YOU WILL WEAR WILL SPURT OUT RED PAINT SO YOU CANNOT CHEAT.

‘TEAMS 1,2 AND 3 ARE THE GREEN TEAM AND TEAMS 4,5 AND 6 ARE THE ORANGE TEAM. CO-OPERATION IS VITAL AS YOU WILL OTHERWISE BECOME EASILY PINNED DOWN AND SUBSEQUENTLY DISQUALIFIED FROM THE REST OF THE MATCH. THE ARENA BEING USED FOR THIS MATCH IS A LAYOUT OF AN ABANDONED VILLAGE ON THE FRINGES OF THE U.L.A.N.C’S H.Q. YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES TO FIND A SUITABLE BUILDING AND PREPARE FOR THE BATTLE. FINALLY, I HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY 31ST CENTURY.'

TWENTY MINUTES LATER

A round slammed into the wall behind Jago or ‘Wolf’, as he ducked and rolled behind the door. He and four other men ‘Viking’, ‘Roach’, ‘Ghost’ and ‘Wyrm’ Were attempting to hold an unused hotel but were being pushed further and further towards the roof. 'Get down!' yelled Viking as Wyrm was suddenly hit in the chest and taken out. The remaining men quickly retreated to a small barricade and jumped over but Viking was hit as he climbed over it. 'Suppressing fire!' yelled Wolf as he took out his comms unit and began speaking to the Orange Team leader called 'Chimera'. 'This is Wolf to Chimera. Repeat, Wolf to Chimera, I'm pinned down in the hotel with 2 allies. We need backup FAST.'

'That's a negative Wolf.' Chimera's voice crackled through the comms unit. 'I'm sorry, but the hotel is to far ahead of us, you're not the only people being shot at.'
'I know that sir but we really need some help here.'
'Well you guys should've waited for us.'
'This is crazy sir. All we need is- great, now Wyrm's down.'
'Sounds bad. If anything, you'll have to jump out a window or something.'
'Are you insane?'
'No other choice trooper.' Chimera said, with obvious sincerity.
'Bye sir.' Wolf said and made a run for the nearest window.

Suddenly, a bullet whizzed past Jago’s head, causing his cool blue eyes to widen in fright. He finally reached the window, and not hesitating, flung himself out of it.
