I’ve known you weren’t meant for me...

When have I ever let you go?
When I have known dangers lurking
I kept you beside me at all times,
And even so you wanted to run.

Frightened for you, I forbid your wish,
To be alone was not the right way
To explore; carrying your head high
In the clouds, I held you.

Crying bitter tears, I let you suffer
In your own delusions of freedom;
With silent hatred, I walked behind you,
Always just a breath away.

You struggle in my embrace,
Something unknown to me
Keeps you wanting for more,
And I was not the one to fulfill you.

The wretchedness of mind
That is ingrained in you, I accepted
While you forced yourself against the world,
Laughing at my scorned heart.

You flew, cutting away the golden bond
Between us; how could I refuse your
Damning demands? Thus now I suffer
Naked with wounds you inflicted on me.

And still I cling to your spiteful smile...
