"I am as vulnerable and fragile as it is possible to be. I am shredded to the core. I am at the point where I am stripped bare."---Rachel Hunter

A sweet silence surrounds you,
A shadow fleeing from your face;
The pillow caressing your flushed cheek.

Should I lean forward to kiss you,
Or should I watch the rise
And fall of your bosom as you breathe?

Ever so softly, you move in
Hypnotizing slowness.
My breath catches, my heart skips a beat.

I must not be jealous for you are mine,
I must be joyful for I am yours,
And yet in sleep I want to tell you…

How much I have suffered beneath
Those cold uncaring looks;
Do you not hear my echoing screams?

How I wonder why we stayed as one
As the sun looked on victoriously, lasting
Longer than any souls twined together.

Yet here you slumber beneath my stare
While the moon shies away from us,
Afraid of my touch and my intentions.

So vulnerable, you are trapped so close
To death, and yet you do not even know,
How much closer you could become—

A caress to your slender neck, a pressure
Delivered as the night is ending
When you will forever belong in darkness.

If only I could muster such courage,
Then the deed would be so easy;
Victorious, I would sleep so peacefully.

Now let me leave you a tender kiss on
Those cold lips, for you will no longer
Be mine or I, yours, as the dawn comes.
