How, you ask can a deep hole

in the ground command such attention?

Yet your question exposes

the curious mind we all carry

Each man in this queue

finds his throat not dry or his need for water great

This far sunk well

splashes the seeker with inspiration

After they leave

and before the wind can erase the damp words

They share the wet message

and so religion is born

Now ask why, some

await the message and avoid the long lines?

It appears the nature of man

carries a lazy curse

And when a waterfall

which showed the way

Is just a dry rock face

with no story to tell

To whom shall we the blind

and forever curious turn

The truth will be sought,

a reliable witness required

Their ability to perceive

and account their exposures

Is all we shall have,

for better or worse

Amen
