Summary

As a couple enjoy a dinner, to the tune of jazz; they realise the sun will soon set. They get up, make their way to the beach edge and wait. The beauty of Cuba waits behind them as they stare at the horizon. I took the liberty to make up a word airscape, as I strongly believe this word should exist to describe views the eye beholds in the air.

Criollo rich sand

consumes our naked feet

Our eyes refocus

on where sky and sea meet

We exchanged smiles

felt spiritually at one

Hands squeezed tight

as we said goodbye to the sun

Latin jazz

lent volume to the air

A minor distraction

unable to steal our stare

Upon the western horizon

distant patterns bled

To the tune of a saxophone

appeared fades of red

Our heads fell back

we searched the skies

Waited for dots of wonder

to alert our eyes

Only a single diamond

lit the cyan airscape

Sparkles of light

danced around its shape

A distant piano fell still

and we started to walk

Guided by bucket candles

and Spanish talk

We found our table

bathed in Caribbean air

Let our sense of wonder

relax in a chair

Lifted our glasses

felt on our lips cold wine

Toasted the star of Cuba

knowing she will always shine
