A postcard can never be too deep

It’s a piece of me for you to keep

I’m up at night can’t get to sleep

Because thoughts can only seem to weep--

But by the time you look up from bed

You forget what you could’ve done instead

It’s not worth remembering what we said

It’s not lingering inside of your head--

I can guess why you sing

you damn know how to use your wings

I can’t give a shit to why the phone don’t ring

But why lie when we know everything--

By this time at night, no ones at the bars

They’ve come and gone, packed their guitars

I’ll never be used to all those stars

You send thru the phone, miles, miles apart--

I can say I wish you were here

There’s something happening here

“What it is, ain’t exactly clear”

Honey, we got to beware--

Summer you said was your time to break

This was your time to reach out and take

Everything that you said could make

What was so special at stake
