Darn it all.

What were those two buffoons doing up there? Why are they so bright? I could see them, smiling down at me. Even without saying anything, the smirk said it all, “Haha. You’re useless.”

Darn it all.

I’m not useless! I am simply outdated! I am simply remnants of the past! I am simply left behind! My light was nothing compared to your light! I’m not useless! I’m worse! I have some use, but no one will remember it again! Now, what do I do? I simply wait. Unlike you two up there, the only way my light could be extinguished other than by ‘them lighters’ is if I die. But you would need something, some kind of thing, to be that shiny. What will happen if that thing was taken? You’re not dead, but you’re not shiny. How does that feel?

Pretty bad, I’m sure.

But you were lucky. You two stay up there, looking down on everything, even ‘them lighters’. You must be feeling so proud. What am I doing now? I laid on my back, looking at wood, my life unused. But I’m young. There was no itchy, thin, white thread around me. I am still fresh. I am still unused.

How poor I am.

What do I do? I kept thinking how poor I am. You two were unlike me. You two were smiling, shining away. You show a smile per shine, a shine per smile. What am I? I am simply a grumpy block of life. I just complain, complain, and complain. Well, what else should I do?

How poor I am.

There was nothing else. ‘Them lighters’ were gone, smiling happily as they open the door. I didn’t know why ‘them lighters’ didn’t kill you, but I guess that was so that you could spread your shining smiles to everything here. Good luck with that. Noth-

Eh? What is that? That thing was as big as ‘them lighters’! But it didn’t smile. It showed not a smile, not a shine. In his hands were two boxes, each filled with some kind thing that was different from the box. I remember! The thing inside the boxes was similar to the one ‘them lighters’ put inside their hole! They felt refreshed afterwards! So what is this thing doing here with those two boxes?

Ah, he opened the lid on the boxes, and then dropped the thing inside to the green thing outside. Perhaps the green thing needed that thing. After it (the thing as big as ‘them lighters’) dropped it all, it pulled out…

A match.

Oh boy, oh boy! What a joy! It pulled out a match! It pulled out a match! This day will be good for me! I will be ‘lighted’! And look! It smiled! How it smiled! It must be one of ‘them lighters’! It lit the match! Oh boy, here it comes! My ‘lighted’ day!

But it dropped it on the green thing. What? Did it not know how to use me? Why did it run away? What did I do?

How poor I am!

Lucky green thing! Flame came to them! Oh, they must be smiling with delight now! They could also shine! Soon enough, all of them were ablaze. I am sad, but those green things were smiling amidst the lovely flame.

Oh, oh! Look at it! The flames! They came! They lit the big thing in front of me, the place ‘them lighters’ rest, and finally my abode! My little, left behind, forgotten, humble abode! Oh, what joy! The flame was above me now! Just a flicker…come on, now, little flame, just one little spark…and there it goes! A little spark!

How lucky I am!

I could see the spark! It fell slowly, but I am not impatient, for it would go down eventually! And it did! And now, I am ‘lighted’!

How lucky I am!

See, you two? I am simply just one, but my light also lit this whole place! Why, the flames were really close to you! I really think you two would be a nice pair of lights! Ah, I am so happy, I think I will simply laid down and be silent, for now I am ‘lighted’!

How lucky I am!
