“The Drive”

She pushes her

titanium-crafted

heavy Amex

Black Card

across the white

marble counter

the contrast

between the two

speaks to some

hidden symbolism

of capitalism

but she’s fine

with letting the

girls

that don’t have

a no-limit

credit card

in their Chanel

Classic Flap Bag

figure out

that meaning,

the sales lady

runs the card

giving her the

special attention

a card like that

commands

before sliding it

across the white

marble

back towards

her

not making a

comment on it’s

weight

like most sales

clerks do

which only

shows

they have very

little experience

with this tier

of shopper,

she picks up

the card

puts it back

in her Chanel

bag

takes her nicely

wrapped purchase

that has been

put in a

brightly colored

high quality

paper bag

with very sturdy

handles

the store’s logo

on the side

of the bag

shouting out

to all

that see it

she is someone

to be noticed,

she gives the

clerk

a fake smile

in return for

all her hard

work

the clerk

expecting nothing

more

then she

does a little

turn

in front of

the counter

puts on her

Ray-Ban

sunglasses

before she

heads towards

the large double

doors

still quite a

ways a way

the heels of

her

Christian Louboutin

shoes

striking the highly

polished floor

announcing her

presence

long before her

arrival

their red soles

making a statement

every time they

flash

as they

momentarily

come up from

the floor,

she pulls her

phone

out of her

handbag

never breaking

stride

or slowing down

for the doors

ahead of her

having full

confidence

a store employee

will be there

at the right

moment

to open them

up for her

and as predicted

a handsome

young man

perfectly times

their parting

as her slender

right foot

goes from climate

controlled

air conditioning

into the bright

California sun

her high heel

shoes

now making a

sharper sound

as they hit

the shiny

well kept

sidewalk

of the drive

similar effects

echoing

from the other

women’s heels

as they pass

by her

but her

Follies Spikes

stilettos

make a very

distinct sound

that seems to

rise above the

others,

swinging her

up scale

shopping bag

in her left

hand

the cell phone

carrying her

nonstop conversation

in her right

hand

as the sun

adds to her

already deep

tan

that is

complimented

by her selection

of clothes

names of which

you normally

only hear spoken

when a lady

is walking down

the Red Carpet

but in her

vocabulary

those names

just mean daily

wear,

she pauses

to look in

a store front

window

at a ladies Rolex

Pearlmaster 39

that she would

wear

more as a

bracelet

then a time

piece

she likes the

feel of the

weight

on her wrist

not the functionality

of it,

she checks herself

out

in the glass

happy with the

look

she’s getting in

the reflection

a well planned

outfit

for this time

of the day

the short skirt

purposely picked

out

to really accent

her long legs

and thin waist

which all becomes

even more evident

as she turns

her back to

the glass

and walks

away

down the drive,

even her shadow

could draw your

attention

a sexy silhouette

following behind

her

mimicking

her very fluid

movements

a well learned

attitude

coming from both

her

and her symmetrical

shadow

as they

both claim

the drive,

the day,

and the sun

as their

very own…
