WEIRD.CHILDHOOD.FAMILY. FLASH FICTION. FROM THE COLLECTION, " BORN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF SHADOWS. " NO 57

Jesus

Auntie Mary is talking to me about religion again, she

says, " Yes, it's not always the smart ones that know

everything, no, sometimes the intelligent ones are wrong

about the world, but poor Dr Buddha, surely he must

know the truth, that Jesus is the truth, he knows a lot, he

knows how I've suffered from being hit by a freight train,

since I was just a poor girl.

And Auntie Mary tells me again how poor Dr Buddha is

the only one who understands and he is making her better.

" I wish he'd pray for me. " She says, " And let Jesus talk to

him, so he can accept Jesus into his heart and be saved.

Whoever would have thought that poor Dr Buddha would

be an atheist? Well at least he's not a Catholic, thank God

for that! You believe don't you? " She asks me. and I tell

her yes, and later I hear her ask Claw, and he says, " Of

course I do, my parents have brought me up to believe in

Jesus, and they're always making me pray to Jesus.

But later Claw tells me that he thinks Auntie Mary's got a

screw loose and that Dr Buddha's just a con-man.
