My Sister Ann

My sister Ann screams at me whenever I go into

her bedroom. Yesterday I went in and she was

sitting on the pot,  'cause Maya says she's too

sick to outside to the toilet, and Ann's screaming

at me, " You have a good look, can you see what

you wanna see? "

And I'm looking at the sheets on her bed and

wondering why they're bloodstained. She calls

out to Maya, " Get him out of here! " And I say

to Maya, " Does asthma make you bleed as well

as stopping you breathe? " I don't know why but

she belts me across the ear, and I start to cry,

and Ann yells out, " Crybaby! "

Yeh, I hate Ann, she should be at school. I

don't think she's sick at all. I think she just wants

to stay in bed all the time. I ain't allowed to stay

home in bed all day.

While I'm thinking about how much I hate Ann,

Claw's digging a hole.

-  Wonder how long will have to keep digging

before we find one of  Mr Shadow's tunnels?

Claw's asking me. Claw's about the same age as

me, but he's stronger than me. We go to a school

that's rough, Maya don't want me to go to the

school but it's the only one 'round here.

She still walks me there to make sure I'm alright.

She doesn't want any Commo kids to beat me up.

- Don't know.

  I'm saying back to Claw.

- But we'll find it, just as long as we keep digging.

- We'd find it faster if you did some digging!

Claw's yelling at me, he knows he's bigger and

stronger than me, and likes to bully me a bit.

- Yeh, okay I'll dig somemore tomorrow.

It's getting late. Maya doesn't like me being out

in the cold.

- Sissy.

- We cover the hole over with a rusty piece of

corrugated iron that we've pulled away from the

back fence, and camourflage it with leaves.

- Yeh, we'll dig some more tomorrow.

  I tell Claw.
