Riding Skateboards

Me and Claw are always riding our skateboards

down the back, and learning new tricks all the time.

Sometimes we even ride on the new road that's

been laid down there, it's really smooth and we can

go faster than on the footpath.

Sometimes we stop for awhile and play in the new

houses that are being built where the bush used to

be, and sometimes older guys come in and start

smashing up as much of the houses as they can,

but we don't join in wrecking the places.

Then one day we're in one of the houses that

the older guys have vandelised, chasing eachother

when the owner of the house comes in, and he

wants to know what we're doing in his house, and

why we've wrecked it, and he tells us that he's

gonna call the police, and we try to tell him that

we didn't do nothing.

But he just yells at us to clear off, and he picks up

our skateboards, and he won't give them back no

matter how many times we ask him. He just yells

at us again, " Piss off! Get off my property! "

So we ain't got no skateboards anymore, and we

ain't got no money to buy new ones, and Maya

says, " Why don't you ride your skateboards anymore? "

And we lie to her that we got bored with riding them,

that we didn't think they were fun anymore.

And Maya says to me, " Well I guess you'll have to

get used to walking everywhere then Jasper? " And I

say, " Yeh. " And now Claw's back to doubling me

round on his bike everywhere again, and always

calling me stupid, and telling me he wished I'd

learn how to ride a bike proper.

" I've tried to teach you enough times but you're

too stupid to learn! " Claw yells at me. And he tells

me he just wishes Maya would stop being scared

all the time, and let me have a bike of my own.
