The Fly Catcher

It was such a harmonious retreat, meditating out in the

peaceful countryside. Our spiritual master said we would

soon find our true nature if we followed his instructions,

and put our minds to it, or rather lose our mind, and realise

we had no mind, or something like that, and we would realise

And he was right, after a week of solid meditation day and

night, I realised my true nature. I realised I was a blowfly!

I realised I was a blowfly feasting on the carrion of the world.

I realised that the moon, and the stars, and the sun, and indeed

the whole universe was nothing more than rotting flesh, filled

with maggots, for me to feast upon!

One day however, I was busy feeding on a dead dog's carcass

when another holy man came up to me.

- Why are you doing eating a dead dog?

- It's my true nature to do this, I'm a blowfly.

- Oh no you're not, you've been deceived! you're the opposite.

You're a fly catcher!

- A fly catcher?

- Yes, come with me to my ashram, and I will help you realise

your true nature, that of a fly catcher.

So I flew along with my new spiritual master, and I went through

months of rigorous spiritual training, and meditation, till I felt

something on my lip, it must be an indication of true enlightenment

I thought. I realised my mouth was open wide, I opened my eyes

and looked around me, I was surrounded by old people on the

verge of death, laying in water chairs. I was in a nursing home,

in a water chair also!

I felt that something on my lip again, my eyes looked down, it

was a fly. I breathed in through my mouth, and swallowed. I was

a fly catcher!
