The Old Tibetan Guy

Claw and me nearly go home after watching Lesley's

death but we decide to go back to the Square and have

one last look, and we notice an old bald guy with a goat

beard dressed in crimson robes, lighting incense sticks

and poking them in the ground, and then prostrating

himself on the green grass of the Square as if he's on

a pilgrimage.

I shout to Claw, " That's Dr Buddha! " And Claw yells,

" Bullshit! What would Dr. Buddha be doing dressed

like that, and carrying on the way he is? " And I yell,

" Bullshit!  It's Dr Buddha! "

Me and Claw watch as Dr Buddha makes offerings,

as he smokes a cigarette, and ties prayer flags to the

branches of the Moreton Bay fig trees. He is chanting

the mantra, " Om Mani Padme Hum " while he spins a

prayer wheel that he's holding.

By now a crowd has gathered 'round Dr Buddha to

see what's going on, and he picks up his begging

bowl and hits it with a block of wood to make it

vibrate, and revolves the piece of wood 'round the

rim of the bowl to make it hum and sing.
