Zorro

Claw and me play Zorro a lot. Claw gets dressed up

in a black cape, and a black mask. Claw's got this

whip that he likes to crack, and me and Claw play

games with it.

During the winter afternoons after school I hold

leaves and bits of twigs, and Claw whips them out

off my hand. He don't miss that often, so I don't get

hurt much, but he thinks it's funny when he does

hit my hand, especially when it's cold. I reckon it

hurts, and I start crying sometimes.

Claw calls me a girl. Claw's got an air rifle too,

and he shoots a lot of birds and stupid neigh-

bourhood cats that stray into the backyard. I'm

always watching him shoot and wanting to have

a go, but he don't let me often.

He says I've got really bad aim, that I never hit

nothing, that I just waste a lot of pellets, and I

don't even to buy new ones.
