I have a beautiful bird,

caged in my heart.

It wants to break free, it wants to fly.

But the bars are thick,

and there’s a storm outside.

I have a beautiful bird,

stripped of all the feathers,

it chirps in my belly,

but no one hears the echoes

of a dark past and a grim future.

All it wants is a chance

To swim into the current.

I have a beautiful bird,

that cries ‘help’,

but can only be relieved

by its inventor.

I am too weak, but I’m growing strong,

I’ve learned a few things since the beginning of this song.
