The Cold War and beyond: The US government created their own enemies.

After reading about a little bit about the Cold War, the red army, the Soviet Union, the Soviet war in Afghanistan (December 1979 – February 1989) and the involvement of the US government and the CIA, it got me wondering, how deep does this conflict go. It seems to me that this war on terror is more of a clean up of a collection of bad decisions of the last few decades. We seem to have woken up to a world where we need to fight wars and kill 'bag guys' so we can feel safer in our own backyards as we work hard to archive our dreams and as we struggle to pay off our bills and so on.
