IN THE BEGINING

Bored to tears with nothing planned

The body to challenge or the mind to expand.

I sit and ponder on what could have been

What could have been done,

What could have been seen.

But then  inspiration bursts from within

I’ll tap out this verse and perhaps force a grin.

THE GREAT BRITISH PASS TIME

 We do it without thinking

 Without a blink.

 It’s part of our day

 As food, and drink

 We deal with it daily

 It paces our lives

 We all participate

 Kids, husband , wives

 But enough is enough

 So here’s what to do

 The next chance you get

 Start your own queue.

TRUE LEADERSHIP?

They said, we will not tolerate these repeated  incursions any longer

They said, we give them twenty four hours to withdraw

They said, we must act

They said, we must unleash the forces which make us great

They said, we do this for the greater good

They, survived

We fried!!!

HOLIDAY TRAVEL

To my surprise, the hotel was fair

So my mood was quite pleasant

A spark in the air

Anticipation was high

A complete week away

Complete new surroundings

Not a bad day

But as can be the case, first impressions aren’t true

Sun stroke and food poisoning

Completed the menu.

THAT SPECIAL DAY

With all plans in place, down to the last detail

Let the game commence, the boat set sail

It’s time now to enjoy the ride

It’s your day, you are the bride

It’s been hard work, it made you ill

But not like dad, when you gave him the bill.

FRIENDS

Friends will always have their say

help with plans that go astray

always knowing the way to go

now it’s pear, they told me so!

Those who only stay to gloat

I keep away, arm’s length, remote

They will never ever be

As close, my friend, you are to me.

FISHING

Rain, shine, sleet or snow

Anglers to the river bank go

Loaded like a pack mule’s mate

Tackled up with rod and bate

Very soon their lines are wet

Will their expectation be met?

Who cares they say, this is the life,

My mates, the beers and especially, no wife!

CHRISTMAS FUN

The festive season brings great joy

Good will to every girl and boy

But they don’t know just how we suffer

“Out the way you dithering old duffer!”

“That last action man is mine”

“If Jonny don’t get one, he’ll just whine”

Recognise yourself my friend?

Merry Christmas, the end.

THE WORKS DO!

I work with them throughout the year

Some I hate, some I fear

I cannot wait to end each day

Clear my desk and get away.

So when the ‘works do’ invite lands

Why the joy, the clap of hands

Hypercritical, I don’t know

Hey it is free,

lets go!

SCROOGE’S CAROL

Thank God they’re only once a year

Those retched songs I cannot bare,

Good King who’s it,

And Silent Night!

Mmm! that last one sounds just right.

Silence them all, just this once,

Allow us misers, a peaceful lunch

Empty your pockets , fill your freezer,

Just keep away,

regards

Ebenezer.

TODAY’S SEASONS

Spring brings joy, anticipation looms,

Warmer air and new colour blooms.

On Summer’s heat, you can not rely,

but a holiday, will get you by.

Autumn’s bronze is blown away

Farmers carry new mown hay.

Then Winter brings the ice, snow and rain

and then we start all over again.

THE DAILY GRINDE

Up at Six,

Out for seven,

Clocked by eight,

Just not heaven.

All to buy a simple crust,

Paying the bills is a must.

A penny more than we can spend

bringing the drudgery to an end.

Hoping we’re not seen as fools?

to dream of winning the football Pools.
