Childhood Boyfriends

I wasn’t allowed to date until I was 16 years old, but that didn’t stop me from eyeing and goggling over them. I was about 10 years old when I got my first crush. His name was Eric Hannah. I loved him so much, or so I thought. He had bleached blond curly hair, not to curly and not too straight, just perfect. His eyes were of the deepest blue, and his skin was olive tan. We met at church and for years we spent every Sunday together.

My second huge crush or who I thought I was “in love” with Ken. I don’t remember his last name. I just remember thinking he was the most gorgeous guy I had ever seen. (Now where have we heard that one before). Ken and I were in Art class together. We would talk and flirt. Ken was a small kid with blond and blue eyes. I have a thing for guys with blond and blue eyes. He was shorter than me, but I didn’t care. Soon graduation came and we went to separate high school.

I high school it was Jason, Rob, Darren, Sean and Charlie.

Jason wasn’t gorgeous, but he was cute.  He had a porcelain style face. Flawless skin, sparkling eyes, and a smile that made you go weak in the knees. His hair was sandy blond, straight. I noticed him one day walking in the halls and I was hooked. I followed him to his classes. One of my friends had a class with him so I would hang out at her class waiting for him just to get to see him. He didn’t even know I liked him. One day I saw him walk over to some boys that were known to be the rebels in school.  Jason was talking to these boys when all of a sudden they just started beating him up. He was out of school for a few days.  Then one day he just didn’t return to school.

I was fifteen and I was secretly dating Rob.  Nobody knew except his family and my brother. I think that my mother had an idea but she never said anything. Rob had two younger brothers that were my brother’s age. So he and his brothers were always hanging out at my house. Rob and I eventually went our separate ways because he wanted to go further sexually than I wanted and that just wasn’t working for him. He wanted more and I didn’t.

Darren was the first boyfriend that my parents met. I  had seen him around. He asked me one day if I needed I ride home. That afternoon he drove me home. During the ride home he asked me on a date, I had told him that he would have to meet my parents. He drove me to my house.  Darren introduced himself to my parents. I thought for sure my dad would not approve since Darren was a “long hair rocker” and he drove. But he didn’t. Darren and I dated for a few weeks. Then one day Darren and I just stopped dating. No reason and no feelings got hurt.

Sean gave me the  butterflies like crazy. I never had this feeling with any of the other boys I dated.  It was intense.  Sean was a tall skinny rocker kid. Brown hair and a boyish grin that made you giggle with glee when he smiled at you. Sean was younger than me but that didn’t stop me. We became best friends until he met my best friend. Sean liked her, and she liked him even though she knew I like him. He asked her out and she said yes. I was mad at both of them. My friend soon cheated on him and he broke up with her.  Sean then started to like me as a girlfriend. Unfortunately I was sure anymore, for the new boy Charlie has just shown up.

From the very first sight of Charlie I was smitten. Every girl wanted to know how he was.  Charlie was a rocker girls dream boy with long blond hair, tall, and good looking.  I was totally interested in him, but so was everyone else. I decided I was going to be part of the hunt for him, and that paid off.  Charlie was interested in me. I was stoked. We spent hours getting to know each other. Charlie ended up being my first. He was so careful and protective. He made sure I was ok as well a comfortable. I was so happy I had waited. Charlie made it worth it.

I look back at these times and remember how I felt, and think boy do we go through all sorts of different emotions with each crush, love interest, etc., we have.  Then we realize that we had to go through all those emotions to understand who were are and what sort of relationships we want.
