POETIC VALUE?

I doubt that these lines shall be read in halls of academe

Or that professors of literature on them shall write a ream

Or chapter, even, of a poetic anthology,

Or within ivory towers discuss them repeatedly.

I wonder what they do all day within those ivory towers

Do you really think they’ll enjoy reading this for hours and hours?

Oxford and Cambridge shall not deign to look upon these lines

They have “no worth, no depth, no subtlety“, these silly rhymes.

I know instead they surely shall be thrown out as “pure trash”

Not one shall even waste their time just reading what I dash

Off quickly, late, at dead of night, e’er I to sleep succumb,

“Hurray!”, they shout, “at long last during slumbers he is dumb”.
