Hunting

Wake up at 4 a.m.

It’s dark as can be.

Gotta be quiet,

my family is asleep.

I put on my camo,

and walk downstairs.

Tell Mama I’m leaving

and head out the door.

Got my old 30-30,

by my side.

Hoping not to use it,

before daylight.

Got my scent-away on,

staying out of sight.

Find my stand,

in that old oak tree.

I climb up and harness myself in,

to sit and wait.

For deer,

to see.

Finally sunlight,

and what do I see?

It’s a rack

coming to me.

So I ready myself to make the kill.

Hoping I don’t miss this huge deer.
