On My Tombstone

As an inscription on a tombstone,

Some lines have been written -

For a man who used to live once,

And now has been forgotten.

The epitaph is an elegy for him,

As he stands before the grave -

Quite astounding for a dead one,

To feel and act so brave!

The place is serene and silent;

Many are resting in peace.

He is standing alone before the grave,

He is on the way to cease.

A brown rose is lying there,

It’s lying there alone -

It’s telling the tale of a love

That once did drill the bone.

The skeletal of the past being

Is in want of fresh air,

Out of the grave hence he stands,

The judgment now seems fair.

He will stand and cry before;

Cry before the stone,

In life and death he felt the same,

He did feel to be alone.
