My Roots

Poem by: Trulybless

Summary

The poem that I'm submitting is about my african heritage, it's about my constant everyday fight to be proud of who I am and this neverending battle that we must face. It's about the way I feel and the hope that I must cling onto.

MY ROOTS
They say that slavery is dead….
And that my skin color is black….
Well, how in the world can it be that in this new age….
My people still can’t read or write….
Just because there is no more Master’s and Whips….
Doesn’t mean that Slavery is gone….
So, Can my voice be the intro for someone else’s song?
Can I be the new Martin Luther King, and follow my own dream?
The world isn’t all that crazy, crazy as it seems….
If we just keep striving and believing; that one day," Our Freedom Bell will ring”.
