Darting eyes and little sleep,

Trying to solve this mystery.

Reaching hands fall back to your sides,

When what they reach for retreats.

Where to go, where to hide,

Behind your old smile, like a shield from unwanted questions.

Smooth the ruffled feathers, crack a joke, create a happy atmoshpere,

Tell them what they want to hear.

Catch a glance, return a smile,

Show them what they want to see.

Never let them understand,

Never let them look inside.

Go again to that place in your mind,

The place where it's always safe to hide.
