She stood there looking at me,

with wide round eyes from life’s wonder tree

I smiled and waited for a gesture response,

but none came at least not at once

I looked her straight in the eye,

and she looked my way but there was no recognition reply

I moved to go and then found,

that she had decided to make one sound

I went back once again,

to see if she was still in pain

I lifted her in my arms,

to fill her mind with my soft word charms

She leaned and kissed my face,

with a wide an unyielding pace

Her little foot jerked and rolled,

with a gentle touch as if getting bold

I cuddled her and held her tight,

then bid the vet a thank you and said goodnight

My puppy Bess was now able to fend,

and I knew her broken leg was on the mend.
