The trees look taller, and the barks browner.

The day’s wind breathes until long and deep

Deeper still when dark is nigh.

the moon’ shines prolong, in nights dusky reign.

And all tranquility has returned!

For winter has come…

The sun sleeps at ease, not flaming nor scorching,

Snug in the downy cradling clouds.

For winter has come!

Vast lands of golden plains

Swaying in mirth.

icy blue lakes  frozen in youth,

All weary streams half resting in earth.

In echoing songs of departing birds.

The years lost solitude has returned,

For winter has come…

The cold wings embrace me whole, in your kindly wilds.

For the days will fall asunder, my heart aches for more.

But now I sleep euphoric, for winter has come!
