A poem I have written about the first time I met my girlfriend in person.
We met online and had been skyping for just 10 days... We took the brave step of meeting each other in the middle - 70 miles each... Here's how it went...

My heart was pounding

As I jumped in my car

Ignoring my surrounding

Key in ignition, door still ajar

Deep, heavy breathing

I know it’s not that far

70 miles is all I’m travelling

Until I finally see who you are.

Time seems to stop as I’m driving

2 more miles to get to the bar

You’re already there as I’m parking

I glance at you from afar

Thinking to myself ‘She’s stunning’

Like on a clear night, you’re that perfect star

Beautiful, crisp and just plain mesmerising

You’re the flawless tune to my guitar.

Physical strangers on our first meeting

Yet we are instantly on a par

As I open my door, I’m falling

You pull me in close, now I know who you are

Within seconds our lips are touching

This memory leaves a perfect scar

After 2 hours of non-stop laughing

It’s time to say au revoir.

That's until our next meeting…

Which hopefully isn't too far.
