Thunderstorms and Other Things

Soft rain trickles down from the sky

Masked with gray blankets of wispy clouds

Deep thunder crackles in the distance

But I have no fear, but instead

I feel serenity.

When I hear the thunderstorm, I feel like I have been renewed

It's like a piece of me has healed and regenerated into

Something joyful and utterly imbued with peace.

I remember the soft rains near the beach.

Standing on the wooden bridge that connected house and sand

Across dunes teeming with life.

And the turquoise waves crashing down in bursts of foam.

When I hear the thunderstorm, it reminds me of those things.

Peace within chaos.

Hope within destruction.

Happiness within sorrow.
