A dark figure standing on an abandoned road. My first stab at poetry. It does not rhyme.

In my dreams I see him,

Standing quietly on an abandoned road.

He is cold and silent,

Never shifting, never speaking.

The closer I walk toward him, the farther he moves away.

A dark figure just beyond my reach.

I hear the whistling of the wind, I see the swirling fog,

Reaching their long tentacles out to embrace him.

How sad he seems, out here on this lonely road,

Lonely and forgotten, waiting... waiting.

Just a figment of my imagination,

Existing for someone who will never come-

Trapped in his own misery.

I call out, but he does not hear.

I wave, but he does not see.

I depart and return, but he does not remember.

My heart breaks for this figure,

Standing quietly on an abandoned road,

Existing for the sake of existing,

Existing just for me.
