11/16

November comes again

With a hum,

Unintelligible whispers

Roaming around

In my head,

Followed by distant whistling.

It sneaks up without much notice.

It arrives and departs

So quickly;

November

Always having to finish what October started

Then it’s overshadowed by December.

It seems to have gotten

The short end of the stick,

But November,

Being whoever he is-

Is fine with it.

You walk up to November’s tree

Knock on the bark.

“Let me in, memory tree,”

You say, you want to remember something.

You think the leaves are waving hello

But then they don’t stop waving.

Perhaps, it’s a long, endless goodbye.

“No,”

You think,

“They’re just leaves.”

So you grab them from the tree

And crush them in your hands

Then slowly open your fist,

Setting them free

As they fall and dance in the wind

To their death

Scattering across the floor-

The graveyard

Where all the others fell so far.

They’re personified in your mind,

But it’s okay.

They don’t feel-

Not like us anyway.

They understand.

They were built for a purpose.

It seems they know it will happen

And they’re okay with it.

The cycle of life.

They’re just happy to be apart of it.

To contribute

Even to death.
