The Runes

Icy wind shakes the boughs, of ancient, sacred oak

Chilling darkness, shrouds the roots, a place no mortal knows

Nine whole days, with mighty wound, Gungir peirced his side

Mighty Odin, from branch is hanged, for the good of all mankind

Writhing in pain, stared into the abyss, a look to shatter bones

Reaching forth, he grasped the runes, carved in sacred stone

He put himself, through agony, a world of intense pain

So that we now, may live our lives, by the wisdom that he gained
