For hundreds of school going kids, the major problem in their life is the Math problem! If you are a parent whose kid shares this difficulty, you must be racking your brains for a solution. Students from these grades basically find Math boring, difficult to understand and cannot for the life of them understand why learning Math is required for life! Is there a solution? Yes and it is a very simple one. Children like to do things that they love; they find things interesting if they start connecting with it. If you are a parent who finds that your child is disinterested in Math, it is time that you inculcate it in your child's mind and heart so that he or she starts loving it. How can you possibly do that? In this article, we will look at some tips that may help you in this regards.
If your child is bored by Math, don't just push him or her to concentrate. It would be really difficult for your child to concentrate on something he does not love. You can try and include Math in what they love to do. Does your child love playing computer games? There are hundreds of online Math games and quizzes that make Math fun for your kids. You may yourself want to search the Internet and look for ideas on how to make Math fun for your child. Introduce your child to new ways of learning. Children normally tend to learn difficult things more easily when the normal routine is changed and made fun a bit. Encourage creative thinking and combine drawing, painting and craft work into Math to make your child understand shapes and sizes.
If your child finds Math too difficult, you may want to help them out with their studies. It is the responsibility of a parent to encourage his or her child to study well and strive toward success. These are the formative years of your children and you need to teach them not to give up and keep pushing ahead even when things seem difficult. Instead of yelling at them for not being able to understand Math, try and be encouraging. Talk to your child and understand the things he or she finds difficult and try and help with an easier way to solve the problem. As a parent, you may also want to avoid talking negatively about Math in front of your kid. Phrases like "I hated Math", "Math has not really helped me", "I am not a Math person" and so on can create a mind block in the child, and it's all downhill from there. Ensure that you always talk to your kid and encourage them to work hard on their Math; this can be an added impetus to study hard.
If your child cannot see the practicality of learning Math, it is your duty as a parent to make him understand the importance of Math in everyday life. If you take your child shopping with you, let him figure out the price difference between two items, ask him to add up and tell you the total amount spend on grocery stuffs. You can ask him to divide the cake so that each of the family members can have two pieces each. Now by doing these you are not only helping him do Math but are also helping him understand the practicality of it.
A parent's job is definitely a tough one. You always want your child to do well in their academics because you understand the importance of it. However, pressurising your kid to perform without helping them practically would give no good results. You need to make your child love Math and then you will be able to see the lovely results it generates.
