Universal mix of hope and drear.

Mist swirls and eddies around the upper half of the tower

Stark and imposing in the weak morning light.

Puddles are disturbed by each passing vehicle

And the dirty water splashed randomly on grass,

Sidewalk, other vehicles, and pedestrians.

Everyone trying to get started on the dreary

Monday, the wind-blown rain dissipating to nothing.

The quick tread of the healers and the slow

Limp of those arriving to be healed

Mix with the scrape of those held in servitude

And the skip of those volunteering willingly

To help in the process and measure their worth

In terms of lives improved or pain soothed.

As the mist swirls and breaks on the smooth tower.
