I had just finished the third day of my workout program when out of the corner of my eye I saw one of the scariest things a person can see at night. This being was ferocious looking and its stench was the foulest my nose had ever experienced. It lay still, under my car, its eyes fixed on mine, for what seemed to be an eternity. Then it moved. It started walking towards me, I in return started walking backwards, trying to move away from it as fast as I could but not so fast that I would startle it and, as a result, give it a reason to release its hell spray upon me. I looked at my phone. One minute had passed, it had felt like hours. Then I took a wild leap hoping for the best. I jumped, yelled, and flailed my arms and legs hoping to scare it away. After settling back down I realized it had not even flinched. At this point, I’m ashamed to admit, I lost all hope. Then, as if it sensed my hopelessness, and took pity on me, it smirked and, arrogantly, walked away. I stood there for a few seconds, making sure it wasn't a trap, swiftly gathered my things, and ran inside. I had just survived, stench-free, my first face-off with a skunk.
